Texas Tech gambling with Coach Leach contract extension?
TT offered Leach an extension that would bring his salary to 12.1 million over 5 years.
This does not seem very competitive with what other top coaches make at elite programs (Bob Stoops, Charlie Weis, Nick Saban, Pate Carroll, Les Miles, Jim Tressel, Urban Meyer, Kirk Ferentz)
So does Texas Tech
1) can't afford him, and hope it will be enough to make him stay
2) Have a great replacement in waiting, so are not worried
3) Doesn’t think he can he get top coach money, so won't leave

blueoxe. you are right 12.1 million over 5 years is alot of money. But NOT for a top coach at an elite program. For example, your beloved coach, Bob Stoops gets around 6.5 mill a year.
